This simple, beautiful, and functional pie dish is part of an entire tableware collection designed by Sophie Conran, an English food writer with her own gourmet pie company. Conran infuses her namesake tableware with a flowing organic nature and tactile expression, as evidenced by the ridges and dipping rims that recall handcrafted pottery. Made of porcelain expressly for Portmeirion, the collection comes in white with select pieces available in cool blue celadon and a creamy biscuit color. Measuring 10-1/2 inches in diameter, this round pie plate is generously wide and deep for a fruit pie or cobbler, meat-and-veggie pie, or quiche. The rim is slightly wavy and uneven, giving it a rustic yet modern appeal. Extremely strong and chip-resistant, the baking dish is safe not only for use in the oven or microwave, but can be placed directly on an electric (not gas) burner to sauté onions and mushrooms. A pre-made quiche or pie in this dish can go right from the freezer into a hot oven and from there to the table for serving. I love this line of dishes and have many pieces. That said, I dont think I would buy this pie dish if it didn't coordinate with the dishes I already have. It's great, love the slightly uneven edges and design, but it's not the greatest pie dish ever. Unless I need to make multiple pies, I just use my regular glass pyrex pie dish. I did use this last thanksgiving, when I had to make 3 different pies. This dish was used for a deep pumpkin pie. It's a big, deep pie dish so make sure you have the crust and filling to accommodate it, about 1.5x what I use for a standard pyrex pie dish. Otherwise, pies come out about the same as they do in my clear glass dishes. It could also be used for baking medium-sized casseroles or mac and cheese.Bottom line... great addition if you have or love this line of dishes. If you're just looking for a pie dish, there are better options!
