Item Info

Marinex Glass Bakeware production began over 50 years ago by Santa Marina, the largest glass manufacturer in Latin America. Located in Brazil, Santa Marina has been producing different glass products since 1895. The factory location is close to raw material deposits of boron and sand which is rich in color and quality. During the production process, these raw materials are combined using heat to make borosilicate glass. Borosilicate glass is resistant to changes in temperatures used in cooking and baking. The raw materials also give Marinex glass bakeware a slight bluish tint consistant throughout all pieces. Marinex Glass Bakeware offers several shapes and sizes that have countless uses in culinary activities and are prominent by their beauty, durability, and ease of cleaning. It can be used to prepare, bake, and serve food as well as to freeze prepared food. It is safe for both conventional ovens and microwave ovens. Marinex Bakeware can go from the freezer/refrigerator to a pre-heated oven where the oven temperature does not exceed 100C or 212F to start. However, Marinex Bakeware should not be used on stovetop burners or over a direct flame. This is a 1.4qt. fluted round pie baking dish that measures 10-1/8" x 9" x 1-7/8". All Marinex bakeware is dishwasher safe. Item #GD16228413

It's real "Pyrex" (TM)
GUSR19

USA "Pyrex" (TM) is no longer made with borosilicate glass, which is what makes it able to withstand rapid temperature changes, unlike regular sodalime glass. There are lots of reports on-line about newer USA "Pyrex" (TM) dishes shattering under conditions borosilicate glass would laugh at. This Brazilian-ware is borosilicate, so I bought it :)

Very Nice Pie Dish!

These are almost beautiful! I was uncertain if I would even like the blue tint, but it really adds to the beauty of these pie dishes. I chose these over pyrex because the size of these are a tad smaller so they will fit easily in my apartment size oven without crowding (but still offered a 1 7/8" depth and 9" across not including the handles). The handles make it easier to grasp the pans. You can take it directly from the freezer to the oven & use in the microwave, too. They are made in Brazil where I guess the hint of blue might be from minerals in the sand or material used to make the glass.

Excellent Pie Dishes Made From Borosilicate Glass
Lynne E.

Because I loved my 10-Inch Marinex Pie Dishes, I came back to Amazon and purchased two of these 9-INCH MARINEX GLASS FLUTED PIE DISHES. The Marinex brand is superior to the present-day Pyrex brand, because Marinex makes its glass cookware from borosilicate glass. Borosilicate glass is less susceptible to thermal shock than tempered soda lime glass, which Pyrex uses. (Years ago, Pyrex dishes were also made of borosilicate glass.) Borosilicate glass has a slight green tinge.Pyrex pie plates have (or used to have) a flat, fluted flange that makes it easy to press the top and bottom crusts together, and to make a decorative crust edging. The Marinex pie plates have similar fluting, but it's more vertical, so I'm having to learn how to create really nice-looking crusts with the Marinex plates. However, I feel much safer using products made with borosilicate glass, because some of my newer Pyrex dishes have shattered when set down on a room-temperature, ceramic-tile countertop. These Marinex pie plates are the right size for all recipes calling for 9-inch pie plates; and the 10-inch pie plates are great if you like to make thicker pies with more filling. I've found that the Pillsbury Readymade pie crusts from the grocery store's cold case will fit both the 9-inch and 10-inch Marinex plates.Marinex warns that a pie dish taken from the freezer should not be placed immediately in an oven, if the oven has been preheated above 100 degrees Fahrenheit. (Thermal shock is still something to be careful about, no matter what kind of glass is in your baking dish.)
